THE INAUGURAL exhibition and awards programme – a collaboration between Olympus, St. Saviour’s & St. Olave’s Secondary School and the Art Bermondsey Project Space – marked a successful new departure for the Olympus community outreach initiative. Working with local teacher, Russell Moore, and a class of eleven photography students, the Project Space set a brief entitled: My House, My School, My Street to encourage the participants to engage with a new perspective on their surroundings and to divert their attention from the all pervasive influence of the “selfie”.
To coincide with LAb[au]’s participation at Lumiere London ,The Mayor Gallery presents an exhibition by Belgium collective LAb[au] at Art Bermondsey Project Space. The exhibition running from 13-31 Jan 2016 will showcase a selection of their kinetic and static works including the Origami series, Mosaique series and Chronoprints.
St. Saviour’s & St. Olave’s School students will embark on a journey in the world of professional photography: from the moment when a shot is chosen among other possible thousands to the sublime experience of showing off one’s skills and intuition when the photo is finally printed and exhibited on the walls of an art gallery.
Tuesday evening saw the official opening of Art Bermondsey Project Space, supported by Olympus. This non-commercial venue will provide a platform to encourage a fusion of photography, art and culture. It features three galleries over three floors that will stage an on-going programme of events and exhibitions, bringing together visual art across a wide range of media.
