St. Saviour’s & St. Olave’s Secondary School – OLYMPUS PHOTOGRAPHY OUTREACH PROGRAMME 2016

My School – My House -My Street.
Saviour’s and St. Olave’s Secondary Girls School in Bermondsey was selected by OLYMPUS and Art Bermondsey Project Space to participate to the OLYMPUS PHOTOGRAPHY OUTREACH PROGRAMME 2016. 11 students from the photography A-Level course were given OLYMPUS cameras for three weeks to take photos in response to the theme My School – My House – My Street. ABPS has selected two shoots per students, to be printed by OLYMPUS and exhibited for over two weeks at Art Bermondsey Project Space in the month of February. A jury panel of established photographers, critics and curators will select the three best shots of the exhibition, awarding a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in the form of OLYMPUS cameras. At the end of the programme, the school will receive an OLYMPUS professional photography kit to continue nurturing the photographic talent of its students.
The A Level Photographers at St Saviours and St Olaves have both enjoyed and embraced the collaboration with Olympus and the Bermondsey Project Space to produce a body or work responding to the title my school, my house, my street. After an initial presentation on his own work, experiences and inspirations from the Photographer Ed Sykes, the photographers worked both individually and in collaboration to explore their environment and their place within it. As emphasised by Ed, the photographers used both their lessons and time outside of school to develop a personalised and unique approach to the title, using their photographic skills to record what they see around them.
