ABPS and OLYMPUS believe in the social role of art as an opportunity for personal and collective development and growth. At the same time though both parties are committed to promoting artistic practices that demonstrate the highest technical skills and do not just base their value on the self-proclaimed geniality of the artist. With ABPS’ team experience in the art world and with OLYMPUS’ exceptional photography products, the programme wishes to communicate to students the challenges of any artistic creation, when this aims to be something that transcend the specificity of the artistic subject and rather tries to communicate with the world in a timeless manner.
St. Saviour’s & St. Olave’s School students will embark on a journey in the world of professional photography: from the moment when a shot is chosen among other possible thousands to the sublime experience of showing off one’s skills and intuition when the photo is finally printed and exhibited on the walls of an art gallery.
Every student will have access to a camera to take several shots under the themes My House, My School, My Street and then choose the best three shots to submit to Art Bermondsey Project Space. ABPS will choose one best shot from each of the students, and the final selection of images will be professionally printed by OLYMPUS to be exhibited for a week at Art Bermondsey Project Space, where during the Prvate View reception a jury panel of photographers and art critics will select the three best shots of the whole exhibition and award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. Awarded students will each receive an OLYMPUS camera the school will be given a complimentary professional OLYMPUS photography kit to continue nurturing the photographic talent of its students.
