SPECIAL NOTES   These two images were especially created by Eileen at Retigraphic (now Pratt Contemporary Art) in Kent and produced by master-printer Bernard Pratt in 1994 in an edition of 295. Each large format lithograph is printed in fourteen colours on 410gsm Somerset Satin Fine Art Paper to such high standard that it is hard to distinguish it from an original conte/charcoal drawing.

IMPORTANT This lithographic image was not photographed from a separate original work. The artist worked directly onto the films to achieve the intimacy and depth of an original drawing.

Born in Glossop in 1953, Eileen Cooper studied at Goldsmiths and the Royal College of Art. Between 1977 and 2000 she was visiting lecturer at arts schools across the UK including Falmouth School of Art; Leicester College of Art & Design; St Martin’s School of Art; Camberwell College of Arts; and City & Guilds Art School.

She lectured on Printmaking at the Royal College of Art between 1994 and 2006 and became Head of Printmaking at the Royal Academy Schools in 2005 until 2010. Cooper was elected as the first female Keeper of the Royal Academy in its 250 year history at a milestone ceremony in 2017. Also in 2017, Cooper curated and co-ordinated the RA’s 249th annual Summer Exhibition at Burlington House.

The artist’s own works range from painting in oil and watercolour, to printmaking (lino and woodcut) and to drawing and collage. Her work is in numerous private and public collections and the images from the 1990s are particularly sought after. A 2015 book by Martin Gayford, Between the Lines, covered four decades of Eileen’s work.

Eileen Cooper was appointed OBE in 2016.
