Colour | Form is an exhibition which invites the viewer to explore their relationship with abstract art, delving into how and why the human mind is programmed to seek out shape and meaning in pure colour and form.
Catherine Sweet, curator of this exhibition and founder of BobCat Gallery, describes the works in the show as “a riot of colour and technique, including everything from handmade watercolours, etching, glass sculpture and installation, to intricate handwritten creations.”
“There is something particular about the appeal of abstract art,” she continues, “sometimes it is visceral, sometimes it is joyous, but always it starts as at an emotional level. More than any figurative pieces, abstracts have the power to speak to each of us as an individual.”
“In selecting for this show, I have aimed to bring together works that are powerful and punchy, as well as those which are gentler and more contemplative, so that as the exhibition unfolds each visitor will find those pieces which tug at them, and pull them in for a closer look.”
