Means’ is an artist-led curatorial experiment showcasing poetic representations of authorship and authority to explore the relationship between art works and their narrative contexts. Central to the exhibition is a text written by Francesca Telling, created parallel yet separate to the show’s development, rather than reflexively in response to the exhibited works.

By observing both personal and public histories, artists in this show map their relationship to authority through studied ambivalence, choreographed negotiations and sleight of hand tactics. Thus, artworks in this show draw from maps, stars,  tools,  documents, domestic mess, boundaries and disguises to create a mediation on how we can really ‘orient’ ourselves in relation to social, state and institutional barriers.

Exhibiting artists: Becky Beasley, Christopher Bond, Johanna De Verdier, Rose Jenson Banner, David Leal, Agnieszka Szczotka, Francesca Telling, Adrianna Whittingham and Lily Zlotover.
