In partnership with ’Say It Loud’ and ‘Help Refugees’

11th – 22nd February 2020

Christina Atik, ‘Build love break walls’

Shado is hosting a 2-week residency between 11th – 22nd February at Bermondsey Project Space in celebration of LGBTQI+ month.

This will include:

–  A photography exhibition curated by Shado which spotlights and celebrates London-based LGBTQI+ changemakers

–  Works by painter Sola Olulode and photographer Alia Romagnoli

–  A series of posters by Shado illustrators along the theme ‘Build Love, Break Walls’

–  An exhibition by Help Refugees celebrating their projects around Europe including Say It Loud, a community support group for LGBTQI+ refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.

This 2-week residency is an exciting opportunity to celebrate and combine the work of organisations working on the ground and artists using their work as a tool for advocacy. We are committed to using the space to include and involve local organisations to bring these networks together.

Alongside the exhibition, we have curated a programme of events with local organisations including creative writing workshops, spoken word evenings and book clubs all celebrating the diverse contributions of London’s LGBTQI+ community.

The residency will culminate in a panel discussion with leading lawyers from Mishcon De Reya working in the realm of sexual and gender asylum; Adam Kashmiry, a trans man from Egypt who successfully sought gender asylum in the UK; and Aloysius Ssali, Ugandan gay activist and founder of Say It Loud.

Bookings required via Eventbrite links.
