Angela Rumble creates treescapes which gradually lose their treeness. Working in oil with a restricted colour palette, she explores the tension between the sterile nature of digital images and the stubbornly hand-made quality of painting. Printmaking and collage techniques are used to obscure and uncover areas, further adding to the sense of disorientation. She sets herself obstacles; drawing round shadows, building up and peeling back layers to reveal the spaces between the tangled confusion that is the forest.
Based near Faversham, Kent, she received her MA in Fine Art from UCA Canterbury in 1999 and has since exhibited in Italy, France and throughout the UK.
