Heidi Pearce

LIGHTS ON BLUE DOGS

1 – 12 February

EXHIBITION: Gallery 2

Heidi Pearce Lights on Blue Dogs (installation view)

Heidi Pearce is a contemporary artist based in London working with soft sculpture, puppetry and painting. In her exhibition lights on blue dogs Heidi presents a sculptural installation that encourages the viewer to question their tension – or indeed complacency – surrounding overfamiliarity. Rejecting the concept of ‘darkness’, her sculptures source uncanny power through ambiguity and familiarity; awkwardly looming, these forms suggest an uncomfortable, yet energetic, existence.

FIGURE AND GROUND

KV Duong, Radek Husak, Gavin Maughfling and James Robert Morrison

15 – 26 February 2022

EXHIBITION: Gallery 1

Gavin Maughfling Stranger on the Path, oil on canvas

Figure and Ground is a group exhibition bringing together works by KV Duong, Radek Husak, Gavin Maughfling and James Robert Morrison.

As a piece of art jargon, Figure and Ground refers to the perception of physical forms. How something, or someone, is distinguished from the context or surrounding in which it appears. But what if that distinction is less clear? What if the context is obscured, or the surroundings turn out to be a construct of imagination?

The artists in Figure and Ground explore real and dreamt spaces as a rebellion against heteronormative environments and present new psychological realities to escape to.

BILL PRYDE
